NERC Entity Certification
Any entity that is or will be operating on the ERCOT bulk power system as a balancing authority (BA), reliability coordinator (RC), or transmission operator (TOP) is required to be certified per the processes outlined in the NERC Rules of Procedure, Section 500 and Appendix 5, found on the Compliance Registry
section of the NERC site, or the NERC Provisional Certification Process where applicable.
To initiate the NERC certification process, the applicant will fill out the application below and send to nerccertification@texasre.org
. Upon receipt, Texas Reliability Entity, Inc. (Texas RE) reviews the application, and if it is accepted, will establish a timeline, including deadlines, with the organization. The NERC certification process must be completed within nine months from the date that the application was accepted by Texas RE, unless an extended timeline is agreed to by all parties involved.
Texas RE will also provide a questionnaire and a statement of expectations to the applicant and all TOPs, BA, and RCs with which the applicant intends to operate or interconnect transmission facilities, as well as other relevant entities.
Once an entity successfully completes the required certification process based on its operating status, the entity is deemed NERC-certified and is not required to complete any additional certification activities for that particular function.
The entity must begin operation within 12 months of certification.
